Taku Ono – Tokyo’s leading hairstylist
If you have never been to Tokyo you must know that Aoyama is the mecca of hair salons. Aoyama (aka Blue Mountain) is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods of Tokyo, located in the northwest portion of Minato Ward.
The area is well known for its international fashion houses, cafes and restaurants. On only two square kilometers, it is home to over 600 hair salons. Wow right?! But how can you find the right one?
I tried a few of them, usually via introduction which is how things work in Japan. The one I stick to I was introduced to my friends husband Taku who runs an exclusive hair salon in Aoyama, called “Cutters”. A creative couple and entrepreneurs, Kyoko Ono the designer of Japanese fashion brand “Pelleq”, while Taku is busy styling celebrities hair and running his stylish hair salon in an Aoyama back street.
Taku is one of the leading hair stylist in town, working for luxury magazines and brands in Tokyo and around the globe. He opened his own salon in January 2013 which is the only place I now get my hair done. He played around with many products during his career living in London and back in Tokyo but has not found exactly what he is looking for which lead him to create his own. VOW.VOW is a fantastic hair oil that caught my attention while sitting in front of Cutters mirror, getting my final hair fix. A captivated delicate scent of Clary Sage, Cedarwood and Ylang Ylang blend filled the air. This multiple use oil, is for scalp treatment, hair tips and serves as body oil (hand bag size). Call it aphrodisiac, oh my, it’s captivating!
The word vow, is a message from Taku to his customers. He vows for quality , service and integrity. Vow to be mindful, vow to be grateful, vow to care, vow to support your loved one…What do you vow for?
Taku is a man of the world, traveling, styling celebrities and models, he lived in London and are home to Tokyo. I had a quick talk with Taku to find out more about this intriguing oil that is now part of my bathroom routine.
What sparked your idea for VOW.VOW?
There are some brands we used because we trusted the quality of the product and the sincerity of the company, only to find out to have been mislead. That why we wanted to produce VOW.VOW hair care.
On this project, you collaborated with aromatherapy master, Hiroko for the first time. How was that?
It came very natural, and gave the scent a good balance of femininity and masculinity, a Yin and a Yang.
Are you using other organic products in your salon?
We haven’t been using any other organic products, because We couldn’t find any other good ones.
What are your projects for your VOW.VOW ?
We are excited to be working on a shampoo and hair treatment for the coming year VOW.VOW shampoo and treatment will be coming out next year.
