Ayurvedic Coffee Recipe
Since I went to Sri Lanka earlier this year, my usual spiced up coffee is even better with the new ayurvedic mix I blend with the potent organic spices brought during our stay in Sri Lanka.
In Ayurveda, spices have a direct impact on our health. Thus the cooking links the healing properties and is a great way to start learning about this holistic healing . A practice that started in Indo more than 3000 years ago.
Ayurveda s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body and spirit.
Same as scents, herbs and spices have an effect on us. If they are smelt or ingested, their properties have been used in alternative medicine and for longer even in Ayurvedic healing practices, infused in oil.
Here are just a few found in Sri Lankan cooking and can easily be used in other culinary recipes such as coffee, to add flavour as well as their magic healing:
Cinnamon – Cinnamon increases blood flow
Cloves – has Anti inflammatory properties
Nutmeg – works Anti-bacterial
Black Pepper – is good for the Stomach & Skin Health
Two simple recipes you can try:
In your drip or coffee press, add a whole cardamon, a 2-3 pcs dried organic mandarin peels (I use the ones from the previous Winter which I dry and preserve in an airtight glass jar), 1/2 teaspoon of groundd cinnamon and 2 whole clover.
In the spice mixer mix black pepper, any other pepper you like (I found some amazing ones in Sri Lanka), clover, cinnamon sticks, cardamon, dried orange peel…Keep in an airtight jar ready for use. Usually one teaspoon is enough for a pot of 4 cups of coffee.
